Relja Bošković

ㅤㅤSi vis pacem, para bellum / If you want peace, prepare for warㅤㅤ

♱ hooks

A Wretch from the Past |   Relja had it rough during his time with the Dalmascan Resistance. Although united under one banner, he recognizes your character as an enemy, not an ally. The center of his universe has always been his unit–anyone against it, be it allied forces or Garleans. This hook requires some pre-planning, but I don’t intend for depth to be part of that. All optics and surface level drama.Haunted by Ghosts  |   His past is wrought with loss. He may recognize your character as someone from his past. Temporary moments of weakness are common with him. It’s up to your OC whether or not they’ll accept this mistake or throw it back in his face. Either way, mistaking people for fallen comrades is his way of coping with a seemingly eternal cycle of grief.

Strange Insignia |   Your character is part of an armed force from another faction and wears the insignia or weapon proudly. Perhaps they worked with the Dalmascan Resistance in the past or were contracted by the Garleans. Now that the war is over, he may be curious about another person’s motivation and allegiance to said faction.Slow-Burning Companionship  |   Relja will do just about anything to resist the idea of companionship. But it’s difficult–as someone who spends a majority of his time alone, he has some difficulty opening up. After living to survive for so long, it's time for Relja to learn how to live. He’s not completely warm to just any woman who will lend her time–assertiveness is key.

Relja is a quiet, solitary man with a practical, no-nonsense outlook on life. He’s analytical and emotionally distant. A battle-hardened war veteran, he's lost many comrades, which shaped his calm, detached demeanor in crises. He prefers a nomadic, outdoor life—staying in one place too long risks forming bonds he fears losing. Though Viera by birth, he bears no loyalty to their culture; his identity is shaped by experience, not heritage.

ㅤ❝ㅤ victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win. ㅤ❞ㅤ

He never knew his real name.Left swaddled in a torn blanket on the steps of a city orphanage, Relja was bestowed a common name among Rabanastran city folk, a name he chose to leave behind. The streets of Rabanastran impoverished districts were ruthless and the walls of the orphanage offered very little protection. Hunger, violence, and abandonment taught early lessons: trust no one and earn the hard way. By the time Relja was a teen (by Viera standards), a military career seemed to be the only way out of his desolate and lonely situation. An enlistment officer passing through town advertised a promising wage, better living situation with ample benefits, and most of all: purpose. Relja was well above the enlistment age in Hyuran years, so he lied about his age, faked a name, and immediately enlisted. His early years in the Dalmascan Army were brutal. As a recruit, he was ridiculed for his unpolished speech, lack of manners, and short temper. But where others fell in line or fell apart, Relja endured.

Relja listened, learned, and refused to break–even when punished for insubordination or reckless bravery. What began as survival instinct hardened into discipline. And what was once thoughtless anger was reinvented into calculated resolve. Battle by battle, campaign by campaign, he rose in his ranks. He earned scars and stripes in equal measure. Relja emerged a natural leader: sharp-eyed, unshakeable, and unafraid to charge into the front lines if it meant bringing back his squad alive. But no matter how high Relja climbed, he never forgot the streets he grew up on, keeping him quite grounded and humbled into his adult life. Now a decorated soldier with a hardened exterior, he commands a level of respect on the battlefield. But behind closed doors, he carries the weight of every life lost under his watch in every resistance front. He wonders if he's truly outrun the ghosts of his past, or learned to march beside them.
